Whatever is True

“Finally. Brethren. Whatever is True, Whatever is noble, Whatever is right, Whatever is pure, Whatever is lovely, Whatever is of good repute. If there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”

Words to live by from Paul to the Philippians (Phil 4:8) that form the instructions for renewing your mind. In order to act, one must first think. The beginning of any behaviour is in the mind, in thoughts. I noted that Paul’s first and foremost ‘whatever’ is truth. Isn’t it interesting that today we are urged by society to find ‘your truth’, what is ‘true for you’, and implying that your truth may be different from another’s truth. It shuns absolute truth, making all truth fluid on the altar of tolerance.

Somehow philosophy has displaced love. Accordingly, to love one another is to live in absolute tolerance of another’s truth. It draws no lines. One must ask, then, what of murder, mayhem and destruction? If these are another’s ‘truth’, where does our society stand? As for me and my family, I prefer to draw the line that dwells on these things as Paul describes them. These things are outcome of love, when we love each other as we love ourselves. We will find the ‘true truth’ in love.
